This year Academies at GBDS celebrated Read Across America week with peer readers, favorite book character day and a special visit from the Cat in the Hat. The middle school students read Dr. Seuss books to elementary school students during the week. In honor of Dr. Suess’ birthday the first and second graders dressed up as their favorite book character. In the early childhood the week was filled with various reading activities, baking birthday cupcakes for Dr. Seuss and a surprise visit from the Cat in the Hat. The week ended with a 10-minute Drop Everything And Read session for the entire school.
