Adath Israel of Elizabeth will be starting two new programs for bat mitzvah-aged girls.

The first bat mitzvah program is a “chesed committee.” There will be three to four chesed trip/event opportunities scheduled. The girls will get together before each event to brainstorm and create each chesed event. The committee will take a leadership role in helping to run each chesed event as well. The girls will have a chance to come together, initiate and run chesed programming in the community.

The second program is a “big sister/bat mitzvah project” program, which will pair each bat mitzvah girl with an older girl in the community and together they will choose something to learn or work on for the younger girl’s bat mitzvah. These pairs will meet once a month to work on their “bat mitzvah project.” This gives each bat mitzvah girl the opportunity to choose something specific that she will enjoy and it will also give them an opportunity to spend some time with an older girl from their own community. Girls have the option to work in groups or one-on-one.
