ADVICE FROM A KID FOR KIDS Make Sure to Wash the Apples

Dear Shayna B.,

During winter vacation I moved. It’s hard starting a new school in the middle of the year. You always give advice I can trust. Shayna B., how do I adjust to the community and my new school?

Thanks, Self Conscious Sara

Dear Self Conscious Sara,

Moving to a new community means a fresh start. You can be yourself and spare yourself all your previous mistakes. Making friends will probably be easy if you just walk into your new school and say, “Hi, I’m Sara, what are your names?” Ask if you can join in games at recess. Don’t forget to give your teachers apples. (If your grades are bad, make sure the apples are washed and polished and you bring your teachers napkins.) If you can’t seem to adjust, camp starts in 144 days.

Best of luck,

Shayna B.

Shayna is a fifth grader and understands what kids in elementary school are going through. She is happy to help others navigate this tricky time. She can be reached at [email protected]. She is looking forward to hearing from you soon.
