After Three Decades, Jewish Home Residents Celebrate Their Love

(Courtesy of Jewish Home) Two residents of the Jewish Home, who have known each other for 31 years, recently decided to celebrate their friendship and love in a commitment ceremony. Charlotte and Michael met on June 12, 1986, attending services at Temple Emanu-El in Closter. A conversation began that day that resulted in this enduring relationship. Michael began to accompany Charlotte to some of her medical appointments and eventually escorted her to local nursing homes where she volunteered, playing her violin. For 14 years they did “musical mitzvahs” together, but when Charlotte moved into the Jewish Home at Rockleigh, their time together became more limited. Michael eventually moved out of the country, and when he returned he was admitted to a nursing home that was hours away. Yet, through it all, they stayed connected, and now the two are together again, both residents at the Jewish Home at Rockleigh.

Charlotte said that she prayed for Michael to come back into her life and her prayers were answered. Michael described Charlotte as “loving, caring and beautiful, inside and out.”
