Congregation Ahavas Achim of Highland Park invites members of the community to their second Shabbat scholar-in-residence of the 5780 Ahavas Achim University season, when they’ll host Yeshiva University Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Meir Goldwicht for Shabbat, December 6-7.
The program will include an inspiring shiur and tisch on Friday night and many learning opportunities on Shabbat day.
Schedule of events:
Friday-night shiur and tisch, 8:00 p.m., at the home of Rabbi Steven and Gila Miodownik. Topic: “Special Places in Eretz Yisrael: How They Build Our Personality.”
Shabbat-morning shiur (after hashkama minyan), approx. 9:15 a.m., downstairs social hall. Topic: “Two Jews, Three Opinions, One Nation: A Formula for Jewish Unity.”
Shabbat-morning Drasha, after Mussaf, approximately 10:45 a.m., main sanctuary. Topic: “The Secret of Prayer in Times of Sadness and Happiness.”
Seudah shelishit shiur, approx. 4:30 pm. Topic: “The Power of Radical Islam: How Do We Respond?”
Rabbi Goldwicht, a prominent Israeli scholar and educator, is the Joel and Maria Finkle Visiting Israeli Rosh Yeshiva and a rosh yeshiva at the Yeshiva Program/Mazer School of Talmudic Studies at Yeshiva University. He is also head rosh yeshiva at the Irving I. Stone Beit Midrash Program.
