Ahavas Achim University and The Department of Synagogue & Community Services of the Orthodox Union will present a special OU Community Weekend with Stephen Savitsky, former president and chairman of the board of the Orthodox Union, on Shabbat, March 17-18.
On Friday night, March 17, mincha/kabbalat Shabbat/maariv will begin at 6:55 p.m., followed by a seudah at 8 p.m., which will include a panel discussion moderated by Stephen Savitsky, entitled “The Cost of Grandparenting in the 21st-Century Torah World.” The panelists will be Rabbi Ronald Schwarzberg, Abe Schwartzbard, Russell Adler, Jeff Korbman and Betzalel Posy. On Shabbat, March 18, in the main sanctuary after Mussaf, Savitsky will give a lecture entitled “Stopping Assimilation One Phone Call at a Time: The Amazing Story of Partners in Torah and the Orthodox Union.” At 5:45 p.m., he will give a pre-mincha lecture entitled “The Future of the Torah Community in America: Challenges and Opportunities.” Finally, at 7:20 p.m., he will lead a seudah shlishit discussion entitled “Shul Life in America: An Open Forum with Stephen Savitsky.”
