Diapers for Lizards! No, the diapers were not for the lizards, they were for babies and toddlers! On Sunday, February 10th, Ahavat Achim in Fair Lawn hosted a fun, family program where children got to interact with lizards and other reptiles. The price of admission to the show was a bag of diapers to be donated to Jewish Family & Children’s Services of Northern New Jersey.
The Ahavat Achim Diaper Drive for JFCS was the brainchild of Andrew and Kira Wigod of Fair Lawn, NJ. Kira is a social worker, and she often sees clients who struggle to cover the costs of their family’s basic needs. As parents of a 2-year old, Kira and Andrew understand how expensive diapers are. The Wigods wanted their tzedakah to go to the families served by Jewish Family & Children’s Services because they believe the agency does so much for their community. “We were overwhelmed with the turnout and generosity of our congregation, and we hope to make this Diaper Drive an annual event.”
Jewish Family & Children’s Service of Northern New Jersey is grateful to the Wigods, Ahavat Achim, and all the congregants at the synagogue. Michael Dworkis of JFCS was at the event with his family and was deeply inspired. “This diaper donation will help hundreds of JFCS families keep their children comfortable while allowing parents to put their dollars towards more pressing needs such as food and healthcare costs.”
