Airport Directors of Aviation of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to be Honored by Bris Avrohom at Annual Dinner

Save the date! Sunday, November 15, marks the day when Bris Avrohom will hold its 36th annual dinner, bestowing the Community Service Award upon the Aviation Department of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. We are honoring the general managers of all six airports that operate under the auspices of the Port Authority. The Community Service Awards are in recognition of their support and dedication to the Jewish community at large by making it possible to spread the Light of Chanukah at the airports. The Aviation Departments acted jointly to facilitate the display of large menorahs at the airport terminals during Chanukah, where millions of travelers could enjoy the opportunity to experience the light of Chanukah, the joyfulness of the holiday, and feel that they are at home—regardless of how far from home they might be.

The light of Chanukah symbolizes that even when it is dark outside, or the times themselves are dark and foreboding, the message of Chanukah always shines forth. The small cruse of oil lights up the night, and we increase that light incrementally each successive night, until the entire menorah shines full and bright on the eighth night.

The Aviation Department of the Port Authority of NY and NJ graciously provided the opportunity in the perfect venue for travelers to see the menorah on the ground in the airport, and to be uplifted by the experience even as they were on board and in the air. Every year there have been additional menorahs and with better visibility. We are greatly indebted to these dedicated professionals for helping us enlighten every Jewish traveler who passes through the airports during Chanukah.

Last Chanukah, Bris Avrohom placed 100 menorahs throughout New Jersey that were viewed by over 20 million people during Chanukah. The Chanukah Menorah project is but one of dozens of the annual and ongoing projects of Bris Avrohom. Since 1979, when Bris Avrohom was founded by the Lubavitcher Rebbe, the light of Torah has emanated from the many programs of Bris Avrohom, enlightening over 30 thousand individuals, and currently serves 10,000 families with multiple programs. From brissin to bar mitzvahs, weddings and holiday celebrations, Bris Avrohom provides a meaningful pathway to Torah life-cycle events and a variety of educational programs from young to old.

Bris Avrohom is known for its legendary care and concern for every member of the community, making them feel more like family than merely members. Rabbi Mordechai Kanelsky invites the entire Jewish community to participate in this landmark event honoring the Directors of Aviation of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey on Sunday, November 15, at the Sheraton Parsippany, NJ.
