Aish Tamid Hats: The Ultimate Products Every Black Hat-Wearer Needs

Natan Solomon (l) and Rabbi Ari Solomon, founders of Aish Tamid Hats.

One morning, on the way back from davening Shacharit at the Kotel, Rabbi Ari Solomon, who is a rebbe at Yeshivat Sha’arei Mevaseret Zion, was talking on the phone with his brother, Natan. Originally from Teaneck, the brothers, who moved to Israel about a year ago, were in the process of launching their new business, Aish Tamid Hats, selling premium black hats at affordable prices.

As Rabbi Solomon was talking to his brother with his phone in one hand, he was holding his hat box, a tefillin bag and a tallit bag in the other. The brothers discussed how there must be a better way to carry around all these items, and how great it would be if he had just had a bag for this purpose. Natan said that there should be a tefillin bag with a special pocket that could also hold a hat. “Everywhere I go, I am always seeing yeshiva bochurs traveling around Israel and every single guy has the same exact stuff they are schlepping around,” Rabbi Solomon said.

Inspiration struck and the brothers decided that they should just solve the problem themselves and be the ones to create this brand new product that the world has never seen. “It has always been a problem that just bothered me,” said Rabbi Solomon. “It can be quite annoying and I often wished there was a solution for this.”

Indeed, it is a common sight to spot yeshiva bochurim and your everyday “black hat-wearer” all over the world, carrying a hat box made of hard plastic with a strap in one hand, while in the other hand they are toting their tefillin, a garment bag, a tallit bag, and sometimes even dragging along a suitcase.

Rabbi Solomon, who has an extensive background in product design—specifically shoe design for thousands of professional athletes and companies—along with experience dealing with manufacturers, created a blueprint for their product. Following a series of delays, the brothers finally launched their patent-pending product and brought it to market, and since then, demand has not let up.

The Bochur Bag

“We created a special bag from scratch,” Rabbi Solomon explained. “The products that we are currently marketing, aptly called ‘The Bochur Bag’ and ‘The B’derech Travel Bag’ are essentially backpacks, specially designed for toting around the necessary items bochurs and all travelers need. The backpacks feature two distinct pockets with a hard case pocket in the front that is uniquely designed to hold a hat, while the pocket behind it easily holds tefillin, a tallis, and, of course, seforim. There is even a way for the backpack to hold garment bags.” Natan added, “We basically took all the separate elements and combined them into one product.” Currently in the product development stage, Aish Tamid is also soon releasing a briefcase version along with a carry-on suitcase version of the bags.

The “Bochur Bag,” which is the smaller of the two bags, retails for $85, while the larger “B’derech Travel Bag” retails for $105. This month, Aish Tamid Hats is offering a special 5% discount for Elul. All merchandise currently ships directly from Teaneck with the help of Teaneck resident Yoni Bodoff, who is charged with preparing the orders.

The company’s name, Aish Tamid Hats, holds special meaning for the brothers. “Around the time when we started creating the hat company we both started reciting Korbanos every morning before davening,” explained Natan. It’s no small undertaking to commit to reciting Korbanos each morning and the brothers took the time to recite each word and absorb every pasuk. It was when they came across a pasuk that spoke about the Korban Tamid that the brothers were inspired to name their new company Aish Tamid. “Just as fire of the Korban Tamid was always burning in the Beis Hamikdash, it’s our life mission to spread the burning passion in yiddishkeit in every Jew. The Korban Tamid represents consistency in avodas Hashem day in and day out, even through the hardest times,” said Natan.

Aish Tamid Hats has instituted an Ambassador Program. To sign up to be an Aish Tamid Ambassador, send a message to Rabbi Ari and Natan Solomon and receive 10% off on any one of their products, as well as a special referral code to give to people who wish to purchase the bag. Every person who purchases a product from Aish Tamid Hats using the referral code receives a 5% discount and the Ambassador earns a simple commission. “Anyone can simply earn a commission any time by just putting their name and referral code in their yeshiva’s WhatsApp group chat,” explained Rabbi Solomon.
