(Courtesy of Sheba Medical Center) American Friends of Sheba Medical Center (AFSMC) is pleased to announce that Dorit Basal has been tapped for the position of associate director. Basal recently celebrated her one-year anniversary with the organization and played a vital role in establishing its COVID-19 emergency fund.
“In spite of the coronavirus, American Friends was able to raise approximately $1 million dollars to support the heroic first responders of Sheba Medical Center,” said Eric Heffler, executive director of AFSMC. “Dorit played an instrumental role in fundraising for Sheba’s Coronavirus in Israel Emergency Fund in addition to other significant functionalities of the organization. We are excited to promote her to this important new position.”
Basal joined the organization in June 2019 as a development associate and quickly assumed a vast range of responsibilities. Her efforts have greatly enhanced outreach, which resulted in an increase in financial support for Sheba and its associated programs such as I-PEARLS, which cares for victims in the pediatric burn unit who are dealing with painful and debilitating scars.
“Her enthusiasm for our cause and her ability to connect to our donors make her a valuable asset to American Friends of Sheba’s mission,” said Sam Davis, AFSMC board member and I-PEARLS founder.
“I am proud to represent Sheba Medical Center, Tel HaShomer and be part of this amazing network of heroes,” Basal said. “It is fulfilling to know I am part of a great team that is so important to the health and safety of Israelis and people around the world, especially now during the coronavirus crisis.”
Basal is a native of Tel-Aviv, Israel and received a bachelor’s degree in communications from Queens College.
