Jerusalem—AMIT, Israel’s premier educational network, will organize a five-day mission to Israel this Spring culminating in a memorable Yom Yerushalayim experience. The trip is scheduled for May 21-25 and is focused on allowing AMIT’s supporters to experience the magical experience of Yom Yerushalayim in Jerusalem. The group will be addressed by Israel’s decision makers and political leadership, including President Reuven Rivlin and Education Minister Naftali Bennett.
The trip offers a unique opportunity to tour some of AMIT’s schools and to explore how its students experience the changing role of modern-day Zionism through innovative experiential learning. Additional interactive workshops will explore critical issues facing international Jewish communities.
Mission participants will relive the miracle of this special day and celebrate Yom Yerushalayim in the Old City. They will walk the footsteps of the 1967 paratroopers, following the route of the battle that liberated Jerusalem and lastly, they will lead the Yerushalayim Flag March with hundreds of thousands of Jews who come from around the world to march to the Old City on this special day. Yoel Bin-Nun, one of the seven paratroopers who fought for the liberation of Jerusalem in 1967, as depicted in the book “Like Dreamers” by Yossi Klein Halevi, will provide a firsthand account of his experience for AMIT participants.
“Our missions combine a special glimpse into education innovation in Israel through the amazing work of our students, teachers and administrators. We combine this with a unique travel experience as many of our participants are frequent visitors to Israel,” said AMIT National President Debbie Moed. “The Yom Yerushalayim experience in Jerusalem promises to be one of the most memorable and rewarding ways to experience the holiday yet. Participants will partake in unique historical tours of Jerusalem and the always climactic unifying parade joining with hundreds of thousands of people through the streets of Jerusalem.”
