Using a product known as Smart Soil from Click and Grow, our students became gardeners. They learned how plants grow and survive and experienced, first hand, how to take care of plants. Students learned about photosynthesis, how plants use the nutrients from the soil that came in biodegradable plant pods, and that water is distributed evenly inside the nanostructure so the plant roots have access to water at all times. They also learned that their plants need sunlight to stay healthy, which in this case is provided by LED (light emitting diode) lamps.
After a few weeks of gardening and learning, the students got to literally enjoy the fruits (vegetables) of their labor when they harvested the vegetables and shared a nice, healthy salad party in their classroom.
