I read with displeasure but not surprise your statement to President Biden requesting an immediate end to the war in Gaza. My displeasure was caused by your continued use of your elected position to disseminate misinformation.
You and the other three Squad members have caused an onslaught of attacks on Jews worldwide. On Tuesday you tweeted misinformation, wrongfully accusing the IDF of destroying a Gazan hospital and killing “500” Gazans. It became clear the next morning that the misfire of a rocket came from a cemetery behind the hospital, set off by Palestinian Islamic Jihad. Not only did you not retract the misinformation, but you also never told the truth: the hospital was never “bombed.” 500 Gazans were not killed by the IDF and the entire incident was a media play to invoke sympathy for the Gazan terrorists and attempt to distract the world from the plight of the 210 hostages being held by your brethren.
This past Tuesday evening, I witnessed hate and antisemitism in my own backyard. At a local town council meeting, several Muslims went on record to vilify Israel, repeating the same lies that you tweeted. Outside of the township building a hundred or so Arabs protested yelling that we Jews should be gassed. After the town council meeting, a mob of Arabs attacked two Jews. Fortunately, the local police saved them.
I understand the plight of a refugee. My family are also refugees. My parents were Holocaust survivors. My father was taken from his home in Poland and eventually taken to the Buchenwald and Auschwitz concentration camps, while also serving in various labor camps. My father’s entire family was killed by the Nazis: parents, brothers, sisters, wife and daughter. Upon being liberated by the Allied forces he was brought to a DP camp. My brothers were born in Berlin in the DP camp.
Eventually my father was able to make it to the U.S. and start life again. Despite the despair of the loss of his entire family, being enslaved and experiencing hell on earth, he was able to get past it, remarry and start a new family. He worked from day to night to support his family but never lost his humanity and most of all, had respect for others, no matter the color or religion.
You, on the other hand, are perpetuating a myth. The Palestinians have been given billions of dollars for economic aid over the last 50 years from numerous Arab and European countries, as well as the U.S. Where did that money go?
You allege that Israel holds the key to electricity and water. Why don’t you tell America the truth? Israel only supplies 10% of the water supply and about 40% of the electricity. What happened to all the money that was supposed to be used to supply water and electricity to Gaza?
Why don’t you remind America that when Israel gave up control of Gaza and forcibly removed Israelis from Gush Katif, it left intact the entire infrastructure in Gush Katif including homes, industrial buildings and the famous hothouses. Within hours of Israel leaving Gush Katif, your brethren desecrated the houses of worship and destroyed all the buildings and hot houses.
It has been 18 years since Israel gave up control of Gaza. You and your brethren voluntarily voted Hamas into power as a political organization. You watched Hamas take the money that was supposed to be used for humanitarian use to build 100 miles of underground tunnels and an underground command center. You watched Hamas put rocket launchers in civilian areas— schools and hospitals. It is well known that their command center is under a hospital.
You have tolerated Hamas limiting electricity to the inhabitants of Gaza to four hours a day. You have closed your eyes to the barrage of missiles into Israel on a regular basis killing innocent civilians.
You did nothing to speak out against the injustice and inhumane conditions Hamas created in your own home. Rather than deal with the truth, that Hamas is a pawn of Iran using the Gazan people as sacrifices, you have embarked on a media campaign to vilify Israel and have proudly encouraged protests around the country.
You accuse Israel of being an apartheid state and imperialist. The 50 laws passed by the Afrikaners against the Blacks resembled those passed by the Nazis upon taking power in Germany in 1939. In contrast, Israel has Arab citizens and two Arab parties in the Knesset. There are Israeli Arabs, Druze and Bedouins. Arabs make up the fabric of the diverse cultural country that is Israel. Israel protects the rights of all its citizens. There is absolutely no apartheid there.
Can you blame Israel for wanting to have secure borders? Obviously, from the events of Oct. 7, 2023 the border was not secure enough. Don’t equate security demands with apartheid.
As for being an alleged imperialist: Israel has tried for nearly 50 years to make peace with the Palestinians. It was Yasser Arafat that turned down land for peace. It is not in control of Gaza and has not been in 18 years.
Let’s speak about irony: your brethren killed, in cold blood, attendees of a “peace” concert. Your cousins infiltrated several communities and killed the same people that brought Palestinians into their homes and held out hope of peace with them. It was those same Palestinians that divulged to Hamas where the schools and nurseries were located and how many people lived in each community down to each house. While these Israelis thought they were being humanitarian and offering jobs and wages to the Palestinians, these same workers acted as intelligence gatherers, assisting in the slaughter of the same people that employed them.
Remarkably, you were not heard to say “free our American hostages.” The world has borne witness to the atrocities of Oct. 7, 2023. You never spoke out against those atrocities. While the Palestinians are quick to release numbers of alleged casualties, the numbers have never been confirmed. The “500” civilian casualties are a perfect example. Contrast that with Israel, which not only has the body bags to prove the deaths of those bodies recovered thus far, but it also has the morbid pathology reports of the twisted ways in which these killings took place.
As an elected official you have an obligation to speak the truth and not encourage genocide. Use your influence as an American congresswomen to call for the immediate release of all hostages. Full stop.
Respectfully,
David B. Rosenbaum
