Support Yitz Stern and Rosemary Hernandez-Carroll June 10th Democratic Primary—General Assembly, District 37
Much has been said about the upcoming General Assembly election in District 37 on June 10th. As your elected leaders in the Township of Teaneck, who work day in and day out to protect your interests, we would like to share our perspective.
Our current Assembly members in Trenton, Shama Haider and Ellen Park, are running on a platform claiming to have made life more affordable, to have invested in education, and ensured economic opportunity.
As Teaneck’s elected mayor and deputy mayor, we can attest that we have seen none of this. They have not worked with us since being elected to the General Assembly. They have not been present—aside from occasional photo ops—and when we have reached out for support, they have been slow to respond or have not responded at all.
Both Haider and Park have been unresponsive to Mayor Schwartz’s repeated requests for dialogue about the Student Support Act, which would create tax credit scholarships in New Jersey. Assemblywoman Haider voted against the IHRA bill, and she refused to support a resolution in the State Assembly recognizing the founding of the State of Israel—eerily similar to the actions of Zohran Mamdani, a mayoral candidate in New York City.
Their statement following the release of Edan Alexander—a U.S. citizen, Tenafly resident, and District 37 constituent—failed to mention other hostages, failed to condemn Hamas (a U.S.-designated terrorist organization), and failed to fully support their constituents in Tenafly.
Furthermore, Teaneck has received no economic relief from the State of New Jersey. Rising costs, including state employee health benefits, have made municipal budgeting increasingly difficult.
A Better Choice: Yitz Stern and Rosemary Hernandez-Carroll
There is hope. In the last election, Haider and Park won district-wide with roughly the same number of votes we received in Teaneck alone this past November. Change is possible.
A new slate offers a better path forward—leaders who will prioritize our needs and advocate for our community in Trenton.
Yitz Stern
Yitz has a long record of service to Teaneck and Bergen County:
Teaneck council member and deputy mayor
Planning Board and Zoning Board of Adjustment
Environmental Commission and Environmental Development Corporation
NJ-Israel Commission
NJ Commission on Holocaust Education
NJ League of Municipalities Legislative Committee
Bergen County Open Space Trust Fund Advisory Committee
Current oversight of budgets for Bergen County’s Department of Public Safety
There is no one more qualified to represent us in Trenton.
Rosemary Hernandez-Carroll
Rosemary is a natural bridge-builder with strong ties in both the Hispanic and Black communities. Her platform includes:
A commitment to education
Support for school choice
A balanced approach to affordable and market-rate housing
Rosemary is deeply engaged in civic life in Hackensack, where she resides, and is known for her responsiveness, humility, and commitment to service. She unites Hackensack and Teaneck—the two most populous municipalities in the district—and will serve as a vital voice for both.
Recognizing Tamar Warburg
We acknowledge Tamar Warburg as a dedicated mother and active community member with local ties. Her passion and grassroots involvement are appreciated. However, her public experience is currently limited to one year of service on the Teaneck Democratic Municipal Committee.
Tamar announced her candidacy in October 2024, before Teaneck’s municipal election concluded. Traditionally, candidacies are declared in January. Early announcements add unnecessary financial and social burdens to our community and extend an already long election season.
This isn’t a game of “shotgun” for the front seat. It’s about choosing the most qualified candidates for the job.
We look forward to Tamar’s future engagement on Teaneck’s advisory boards and committees.
The Dangers of Machine Politics
We must remain cautious about political machines. Reports indicate that gubernatorial candidate Steve Fulop is financing up to 37 Assembly campaigns—including Tamar Warburg and her running mate Dan Park. This raises serious ethical concerns.
Legislators should not owe their seats to a future governor’s campaign war chest. We need independent voices in Trenton—not figureheads for someone else’s agenda.
Let’s Stay United
We must not forget the lesson learned after the 2022 election:
Our Strength Lies in Unity
When divided, our numbers mean little.
When united, we are a powerful force.
We must be strategic. The goal is to unseat incumbents who do not serve the best interests of our community. Yitz Stern and Rosemary Hernandez-Carroll are the candidates best positioned to do that.
Vote June 10
We strongly urge our community to unite in support of:
Yitz Stern
Rosemary Hernandez-Carroll
