An Unsung Hero Mashgiach is Recognized at Kosherfest

Secaucus—Rabbi Barry Nash has been working for the same boss for 25 years as a mashgiach for the Rabbinical Council of Bergen County. Last week at Kosherfest he was recognized as the Mashgiach of the Year by Kashrus Magazine. This is the fifth year that the prestigious kashrus magazine has offered a $1000 award to the mashgiach it felt “went beyond the call of duty to protect the integrity of kashrus,” according to Rabbi Yosef Winkler, the publisher. He was recognized for his dedication, often beginning his work day as early as 4 AM and working for 12 hours. “He will go out of his way to provide special needs foods for even one child at the school he works in and at Camp Monroe where he works during the summer. Co-workers say that Rabbi Nash “is beloved by everyone who comes in contact with him.” He is said to directly have an impact on the children, both in the school and in Camp Monroe.

The Mashgiach of the Year is significant in that it recognizes the contribution of hundreds of mashgichim working all over the world who in great measure “police” the hundreds of thousands of kosher products and ingredients.
