Teaneck–Time to make the donuts and eat the latkes! Noah’s Ark Deli and Restaurant hosted the Cedar Lane Management Group’s ‘Annual Latke Eating Contest’ on Sunday December 20. “It’s fun, the food, the latkes, it’s a thrill,” said teen contestant Devora Krishcher an 11th grader at Ma’ayanot Girl’s High School. “It’s a family thing,” said Devorah’s dad Shalom Krishcher. “We don’t have to win, we just have to enjoy the latkes. When it stops being fun we stop eating, you don’t have to get sick.”

“This was our first time hosting this event,” said Noam Sokolow owner of Noah’s Ark. “It was fun, we’ll definitely do it again and maybe we’ll do as some here suggested and spice it up by adding a jalapeno latke category,” laughed Sokolow. 17-year-old Ephraim Taber stated his strategy at the start, “I’m going to eat two latkes together,” but to no avail. Taber and other teenage participants were ‘out eaten’ by his older brother Yitzi Taber a teen champion from two years ago. An unexpected tie-breaking round surprised the small crowd gathered at Noah’s Ark, heating up the adult portion of the competition. And the winner? Shalom Krishcher, who won by a mere half a latke and took home the prize: A $50 Noah’s Ark gift card.
