Annual Areyvut Breakfast to Honor Inspiring Communal Leaders

(Courtesy of Areyvut) On Sunday, May 19, Areyvut will be hosting its annual breakfast in Teaneck honoring Sara Blau with the Young Leadership Award and Alan Levine with the Community Leadership Award.

An accomplished athlete Sara Blau, a senior at the Schechter School of Long Island has experienced the fun and passion of organized sports since she was a kindergartener. To share that joy and sense of excitement with others, Blau launched Game Changers New York (GCNY), a non-profit organization that collects and distributes new and gently used sports equipment for children in need globally. Thus far, under Blau’s leadership, GCNY has collected over 6,500 pieces of sports equipment and has donated the equipment to more than 20 partner organizations around the world, benefiting thousands of children.

In addition to GCNY, Blau is the captain of her school tennis and softball teams, editor for the school magazine and president of the Human Rights Advocates club. Blau served as a member of the UJA of New York’s Center for Youth Philanthropy and Leadership, and as a youth ambassador council member for the Jewish Teen Funders Network. She is the recipient of the Diller Teen Tikkun Olam Award, Light of the Future Award, the Prudential Spirit of Community Award, and The President’s Volunteer Service Award, the Good Deeds Award for LI Teens.

Alan Levine of South Orange, New Jersey, is a marketing, communications and business development professional, focusing on professional services and not-for-profit organizations. He has served as director of marketing for several major law firms and for the last ten years, through his firm Levine Marketing Solutions, has served as a consultant to a variety of law firms and non-profit organizations. He loves what he does and likes to think he does it very well.

Levine’s true passion, however, is the work he does as a volunteer. He spends much of his time as a volunteer and has served as a dedicated board member for Family Connections, Areyvut, the Pickals Foundation, Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel and the South Mountain YMCA, including serving as board president for Areyvut and Family Connections. Levine lends a hand whenever and wherever he can. Chief among those causes have been South Orange/Maplewood Refugee Resettlement Project, Families with Children from China, Bergen LEADS, Northern New Jersey Professionals in Transition and JESPY House.

Since September 1, 2018, Areyvut’s program has partnered with and impacted more than 100 nonprofit agencies, including many schools, shuls and organizations throughout Bergen County.

Funds raised at the breakfast will support Areyvut’s many community programs.

The breakfast honoring Blau and Levine will take place at Congregation Bnai Yeshurun in Teaneck, beginning at 9:30 a.m.. The formal program will begin at 10:30 a.m. and will conclude at 11 a.m..
