Annual JEC Golf Outing Renamed in Memory of Alex Krause, z”l, Set for July 18

Mark your calendars because on Monday, July 18, JEC will hold its Seventh Annual Golf Outing at the prestigious Shackamaxon Country Club in Scotch Plains, New Jersey.

This year the event has been renamed The Alex Krause Memorial JEC Golf Outing in memory of longtime former co-chair Alex Krause.

Alex is described by friends and family as someone who possessed “a bright smile and tremendous heart.” They called him “a natural leader who helped others do the right thing and ensured everyone always had a great time.”

“He was someone who wanted to make sure everyone had a good time and he would ride around in the golf cart making sure everything was perfect,” his friends and co-chairs Jeffrey Kimmel and Brian Ness remembered.

Ironically, Alex never picked up a golf club, yet he was considered to be “the cornerstone of the JEC Golf Outing” and made it his goal to ensure that every participant enjoyed the experience. “His warmth, spirit and wonderful nature will continue to drive this program for years to come.”

Event organizers are planning for an amazing day of golf with food stations to be set up at several of the holes. The course itself has been described as challenging, presenting “a true test for players of all abilities.”

The day begins at 10 a.m. with coffee, snacks and some quality time on the driving range. A late-morning kiddush club is planned where players will be treated to cholent, potato kugel, a whisky bar and freshly rolled cigars. With a 1 p.m. shotgun start, golfers will play 18 holes of golf. There will be grilling stations set up all throughout the course.

If golf is not your thing but you still want to participate in some of the day’s festivities, come at 6 p.m. for a “sumptuous cocktail dinner reception,” a fun-filled awards presentation and raffle with all kinds of fabulous prizes.

For years, regulars have been coming not only for the great atmosphere but also because the event is a wonderful fundraiser for the JEC, benefitting the scholarship funds of the three divisions of the JEC School—The JEC Lower School, The JEC High School and Bruriah High School for Girls.

“It’s a great time for everyone. People have been coming back for years now. We have a lot of golfers who just want to mark this date on their calendar every single year to make sure they come to the JEC outing because it’s really one of the best in the area,” said Kimmel and Ness.

Last year the event raised $75K and naturally hopes to surpass that number.

Anyone can register or sign up to be a sponsor, whether individual families or corporations.
