On Monday, fathers, grandfathers and even some brothers joined together with high school students for a morning of learning at the annual JEC Yom Iyun. During Shacharit, families got a taste of the high school’s 10 minute tefillah chaburot, the twice-a-week learning groups for students before kriyat haTorah. “Davening came alive in those few minutes with my son’s rebbe,” said one parent from Highland Park.
A gala breakfast followed with words of Torah and appreciation from Principal Rabbi Ami Neuman, who spoke about the importance of seeing the Ephraim and Menashe in each student, and in ourselves as well. From there, morning seder began with fathers and sons learning b’chavruta from prepared maarei mekomot. Everyone had the opportunity to see how JEC students learn each morning—independently, with a focus on growth in textual skills and analysis.
Following seder, the morning ended with a shiur from each rebbe on the learned material. The day’s learning was sponsored by Moshe and Renee Glick of West Orange in memory of Bernard Glickman, Dov ben Elchanan HaKohen. Thanks also to Rabbi Aryeh Leib and Alissa Joseph of Clifton for their contributions towards the program as well.
