Anshei Lubavitch Course to Cover 33 Centuries of Jewish Literature

Rabbi Avrohom Bergstein of Anshei Lubavitch in Fair Lawn invites Jewish of all affiliations and backgrounds to Book Smart, a six-part survey of the history, authors and content of Judaism’s most important titles. The course will begin on Jan. 22 at 7:30 p.m. at Anshei Lubavitch in Fair Lawn.

Each class is 90 minutes. Literature to be addressed includes Torah, Talmud, Midrash, Halacha, ethics, and philosophy, as well as kabbalah and Chasidic mysticism.

The history of Jewish literature is a broad subject, but according to Rabbi Bergstein, the course will also go deep. “We’re not just going to learn why these works were written. We’re actually going to get a taste of what it’s like to participate in a Talmudic debate, unpack a philosophical conundrum, and decipher a kabbalistic text from the Zohar.”

The first lesson, which will include a light dinner and begin at 7:10 p.m., is free; students can register for the remainder of the course after sampling the first class. Anshei Lubavitch is located at 10-10 Plaza Rd., Fair Lawn.

Book Smart was developed by the Rohr Jewish Learning Institute, headquartered in Brooklyn, which has a sterling reputation for producing high-quality and engaging courses. For more information, contact Rabbi Bergstein at (201) 362.2712 or [email protected].
