Areyvut’s CommUNITY Chesed Fair Will Build and Unite CommUNITY

(Courtesy of Areyvut) Areyvut will hold its inaugural CommUNITY Chesed Fair, a unique and impactful event designed to engage students and adults of all ages in meaningful chesed, community-building and hands-on volunteering on Tuesday, May 27 from 5:30-8 p.m. at Congregation Ahavath Torah in Englewood. The fair will feature more than 20 nonprofit organizations spanning local and Israeli causes. Participants will explore volunteer opportunities, learn about diverse service initiatives, and connect with organizations doing critical work across the Jewish and broader community.

“The CommUNITY Chesed Fair is more than a program, it’s a platform for building meaningful relationships, sparking ideas and reminding each of us that we can actively make a difference,” said Daniel Rothner, founder and director of Areyvut. “Whether you’re a middle school student, a parent or a retiree, this event offers an opportunity to get involved in something truly meaningful.”

Organizational representatives have expressed enthusiasm about participating: “When we show up for each other, we become stronger as a community,” said Naomi Nussbaum, executive director, OneFamily Fund U.S..

“The Jewish people are ONE family, and we’re excited to share that passion and message with the community at the fair,” added Mickey Flaumenhaft, director of development, American Friends of Migdal Ohr.

“It has been an honor to be a part of past Areyvut chesed fairs. Through the programming, we’ve been able to share our mission with so many new people,” reflected Rabbi Efrem Reis, assistant director, Hebrew Free Burial Association.

“I love working with Areyvut to spread the word about so many local organizations that can meaningfully use volunteers. It’s beautiful to see how we all support each other,” shared Zeesy Grossbaum, director, Bergen County Friendship Circle.

Attendees can discover new initiatives and causes including:

“Binyamin’s Buddy Bench Project is excited to showcase our B’nai Mitzvah initiative and offer families a meaningful opportunity to give back and support children in need,” said Carol Gonsher, founder, The Binyamin Chai Project.

“We’re excited to share our new Leight Legacy Heroes youth initiative, which empowers kids and teens to partner with United Hatzalah’s heroic medics to save lives in Israel,” said Alana Rubin, program manager, Friends of United Hatzalah.

“At Yesh Tikva, we believe no Jew should face infertility alone. Our presence at the fair reflects our commitment to creating compassionate, well-informed communities,” said Kenzi Locks, director of educational development, Yesh Tikva.

All members of the organized Jewish community — individuals, families, students, educators and communal leaders— are warmly encouraged to attend, connect, learn and give back.
