Linking Northern and Central NJ, Bronx, Manhattan, Westchester and CT

Artists Emerge from Black Box

Teaneck–Black Box Studios, providing collaborative theater workshops and performance for ages 5 to Adult since 2007, will hold its 7th Annual Winter Talent Showcase (and Holiday Party) on Saturday, December 20th at Temple Emeth, 1666 Windsor Road in Teaneck, NJ 07666. Performances will begin at 8:30 p.m., and admission is free.

At the Winter Talent Showcase, a yearly BBS tradition, an eclectic line-up of numerous performing arts students and theater professionals from Northern New Jersey and NYC gather to present works-in-progress from upcoming productions, including Evil Dead: The Musical; Clifford Odets’ classic, Golden Boy; scenes and songs from Little Shop, and The Devil Inside, an early work by Pulitzer-Prize winning playwright David Lindsay-Abaire. (The full-length shows will happen between January 3rd & 14th, 2015, with tickets going on sale in mid-December.)

Over 35 performers ranging in age from 9 to adult are scheduled to take the stage at the Showcase, mainly members of BBS’ weekly Teaneck workshop or school drama club programs, including the Adult Acting Workshop, Popular Musical Theater Workshop For Teens, Teen Drama Ensemble, Teen Musical Theater Ensemble, TABC Drama Club, and more. Additionally, brand new material from some of the completely original shows that BBS is currently developing will be unveiled by professional theater artists, including a song set from Huey Houston’s musical, This Time. Finally, there will also be a reunion performance featuring cast members from this past summer’s Drama & Musical Theater Camp 2014 productions of One Flew Over the Cuckoos’ Nest and Two Gentlemen Of Verona: The Rock Musical Comedy Romance.

As of December 1st, Black Box Studios has opened up “early bird” registration for its spring semester, which begins in central Teaneck on January 25, 2015. Additionally, early bird registration has commenced for both Rock Musical Theater Camp 2015, which this summer will be held in residence at The Dwight-Englewood School as part of its Summer Connections program…and for Drama Camp 2015, which will once again be held in Teaneck. In closing, the BBS Ensemble–in a new incarnation–will also return to a stage in Teaneck in 2015 with two special late-winter/early-spring productions soon-to-be-announced.
