Have you ever watched an infomercial and wondered if the product actually works? At Yavneh’s annual sixth grade science fair, the students chose an “As Seen on TV” product and tested the validity of the advertised claim. Flex Tape, Block Out, The Wubble Bubble, Oxy-Clean and Crayola markers were just a few of the products chosen.

Applying their knowledge of the scientific process, children chose a product, identified a testable claim, determined a hypothesis and created a step by step procedure before conducting their experiment. Student shared their findings on a presentation board accompanied with on-site presentations and explanations. The project will conclude with letters written to the manufacturers sharing the strengths and weaknesses of the tested product. Visitors to the science fair enjoyed learning about the different products. As one parent shared, “The children’s presentations were great. I now have some shopping to do!”
