The annual Names, Not Numbers® premiere was held at ASHAR this past Sunday. Each year, the ASHAR eighth graders participate in the Names, Not Numbers Oral History Documentary Program, in which the students interview six Holocaust survivors and film their stories. The students learned about the Holocaust in class and worked on several Holocaust-related projects throughout the year. They attended a workshop on moral courage at the RCC Holocaust Museum and Center for Tolerance and Education, researched and wrote about events leading up to the Holocaust and the Holocaust itself and they created artifacts and other visual displays based on the lives of the Righteous Among the Nations. The community-wide premiere was the culmination of the students’ year-long Holocaust curriculum, demonstrating their determination to ensure the stories of Holocaust survivors are never forgotten.
