Asher Goldstein, MD Opens Hackensack Practice

Teaneck resident and pain management physician Asher Goldstein, MD, has recently moved into a newly renovated office on Overlook Avenue in Hackensack. At the new location, the practice has been rebranded as PAIN + Recovery. Dr. Goldstein will continue to treat patients requiring pain management, and has introduced a physical therapy practice, as well as an opioid recovery program. The state-of-the-art facility will treat patients with varying pain disorders and/or opioid addictions who are seeking options in their treatment plans.

“Overlook PAIN + Recovery is comprised of three independent, but also interdependent, entities,” explained Dr. Goldstein.

A graduate of The Mount Sinai School of Medicine, Dr. Goldstein is board certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation. He continued on to the anesthesia program at SUNY Brooklyn, and is board certified in pain medicine. Dr. Goldstein has been practicing pain management in Teaneck for the past 14 years.

Dr. Goldstein has been working with Bracha (Beth) Mazin, physician assistant, for the last seven years. With the introduction of the new practice, Mazin has shifted her role to include many administrative responsibilities. Over time both practitioners encountered many patients who are using opioids to manage their pain but would like to learn about other alternatives. Additionally, many patients both inside and outside the practice had inquired about stopping their opioid medications.

“There are so many people out there that need some help and compassion, but do not require an inpatient detox facility,” Mazin explained.

The opioid recovery treatment program in Hackensack is an outpatient service that offers patients an opportunity to overcome their opioid addiction while addressing their underlying pain through interventional pain procedures, physical therapy and/or other types of non-opioid pain management. The objective of Overlook PAIN + Recovery is to eliminate the use of controlled substances, yet still provide pain relief. The uniqueness of this program, according to Mazin, is that it is helping patients treat any underlying pain disorder while coming off of their opioids.

The physical therapy division helps patients who are in the opioid recovery program as well as those who require conventional physical therapy. Additionally, it specializes in pelvic floor dysfunction therapy, a service that is not easily accessible in the Bergen County area yet can benefit many local women who suffer from this disorder. Other therapies provided include orthopedic therapy, myofascial release, neuromuscular re-education and joint mobilization.

In keeping with its mission, Overlook PAIN + Recovery focuses on providing individualized and compassionate care. Their staff’s objective is to customize a treatment plan that works for each person. Patients are offered personalized one-on-one care with practitioners and their concerns are regarded with the utmost respect and confidentiality.
