When eighth graders Ahuva Becker and Daphna Hagler observed the robust Israel programming taken place in Bruriah’s High School division lead by AISAC, the school’s Israel Awareness and Action Committee, they decided to create a meaningful initiative at the junior high level.
“The sky’s the limit,” said Daphna’s father Rabbi Chaim Hagler. “The girls created something truly yesh m’ayin.”
“We saw how AISAC was really raising Israel awareness and how much fun the high school students were having,” said Becker, “And Daphna and I wanted to start something that would strengthen our connection to Israel in the junior high.”
The duo ran their first program this week with an interactive game for the entire division, that included questions related to Israel, followed by the screening of a powerful video about the life of young Israeli soldiers serving in the IDF. Students were surprised by how young many of the soldiers appeared, and watching the film and discussing it afterwards really drove home the realities facing Israelis who are just a bit older than they are.
As one administrator fittingly quipped, “At Bruriah, “If you will it, anything is possible.”
