Back to a Future Without Parkinson’s

Teaneck—Back to the Future (BTTF) enthusiasts are well aware that 2015 is the 30th anniversary of the release of the first movie in the BTTF trilogy. Those who are even more into the movies remember that in BTTF II, Marty McFly and Doc traveled full speed ahead to October 2015.

Lou and Debby Flancbaum of Teaneck, and their dedicated group of volunteers, could not pass up these auspicious anniversaries as a chance to raise find for the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. Over the past four years, the Flancbaums, with the help of countless volunteers, raised over $200,000 from their golf outing, Pars for Parkinson’s. This year, they decided to do something new and exciting with the hope of raising even more money and raising awareness.

Luckily, Matthew Latten, owner of Teaneck Cinema jumped right on the Flancbaum’s Back to the Future Bandwagon. A showing of BTTF will happen on Sunday morning, October 18, 2015 at 10 am. All proceeds will benefit the MJFF.

“So far, everyone we have approached about our event is really excited,” says Lou Flancbaum. We hope to get all of the local merchants involved on some level. This is an event that could be enjoyed by the entire township. We have the potential to do something really great here.”

The Flancbaums are reaching out for volunteers. “We are looking for people with energy and imagination to help us make this event a huge success. Parkinson’s affects the lives of so many families and the MJFF is committed to finding a cure and closing its doors. When my husband was diagnosed eight years ago, it changed our lives forever and summarily ended his career as a general surgeon, reflects Debby Flancbaum. “Sometimes I think about the lives he could have saved and I feel very sad. But now it’s our turn to try to save his life and the lives of the six million Parkinson’s sufferers worldwide.
