(Courtesy of BCFL)As the nation is gearing up to watch the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs battle it out in Super Bowl XLVII, football is certainly on the mind of many. The game, the parties, the halftime show and the commercials are all destined to be epic, but when the dust clears on Monday morning we will be left with the dilemma of how to get our Sunday afternoon football fix.
Fear not, Bergen County. The Bergen County Flag Football League (BCFL) is hard at work preparing for its fourth season, coming to a field near you in under two months. Flag football is a growing sport; It was spotlighted at the Pro Bowl this past Sunday and youth leagues are popping up all over the country, including Bergen County. The Bergen County Flag Football League is the only NFL Flag football league in Bergen County open to both boys and girls—kindergarten to third grade and boys only in fourth to eighth grade.
Rabbi Avi Rosalimsky shared that both he and co-commissioner Steve Gutlove are very proud of what BCFL has produced over the past few years. “I am super excited for our fourth season of BCFL. At a time when technology and social media are such major distractions for kids, there is nothing more wholesome than watching the kids play football with and against their friends. Not to mention, the amazing dads spending time coaching their sons and the other players on the team.”
When asked what sets the Bergen County Flag Football League apart from the other local flag football leagues, Gutlove told The Jewish Link: “Flag football is a great sport, it combines the excitement, strategy and athleticism of America’s favorite past-time, but by limiting contact the game has become much more youth (and mom) friendly. Avi and I appreciate that there are other amazing local flag football options and have therefore partnered with the NFL and NFL Flag so all of our players get official NFL replica jerseys, similar to those that their favorite professional athletes wear. Our volunteer coaches have access to a database of coaching tips from NFL coaches. Along with many extras, last spring the boys and girls of BCFL took over Metlife Stadium and played on the same turf as Saquon Barkley and Sauce Gardner.”
All of Bergen County is eagerly watching to see which BCFLer will emerge as this season’s Patrick Mahomes or Jalen Hurts and help lead their squad to the BCFL spring 2023 championship. Visit Bergenflag.com to register today.
