Though spring classes at the BCHSJS ended on Sunday, May 17, a number of students requested the school offer classes in June. At Principal Fred Nagler’s request, five teachers volunteered to teach classes on three Sundays in June:

Some are true, while others are so false that we can’t fathom how people can believe them… Ever wonder where the concepts of Jews having horns, being thrifty, or having holes in their sheets came from? Together, we are going to debunk some famous Jewish myths and attempt to uncover potential underlying truths.

Israel’s subsequent new standing in the world and the turmoil that followed. We’ll learn about the participants on all sides of the conflict and the back stories.

The Talmud contains many discussions of Jewish law, but it also records some great stories! Some are funny, some are shocking, all are epic, and there is always a lesson.

Think reading the weekly Torah portion (parsha) is just some right of passage for your Bar/Bat Mitzvah? Think again! Every week we will examine the parsha and discover lessons which are both meaningful and relevant to our lives today.

The major newsworthy events of the week will be examined in light of their effects upon Israel and Jews everywhere. How do the happenings in the Middle East affect you? Who’s who in the Jewish world? These and many more questions will be answered each week as we take an in-depth look at the world around us.

The students enjoyed the classes and are looking forward to continuing the next two weeks.
