Being Kind Is a Better Way to Make Friends

Dear Shayna B.,

I’ve always been bad at making friends and some of the meaner kids in my class are better at making friends. I started acting a little meaner so I could make some friends, and now my classmates want to be friends with me even less. What should I do?

Sincerely,
Bully Binyamin

Dear Bully Binyamin,

You should stop being mean. You should apologize to your classmates and tell them the reason why you were mean. You can do after-school activities and invite people over to your house. People want to make friends just as much as you do, if not more. You can hang out with people at recess and call them friends to their face. I’m sure they’d appreciate it if you would ask people about themselves. I’m sure they love to talk about themselves.

Also, you can be friends with family; there’s no law against that. However, if there is a law against being friends with your family that I am not aware of, at least you can make friends with other prisoners in jail.

Best of luck,
Shayna B.
