The community is invited to join together this Tuesday, June 17 at 6:30 p.m..
Talmud Torah K’neged Kulam. In this singularly powerful statement, Chazal taught us that the mitzvah of Torah study has pride of place amongst all of the mitzvot of the Torah. There are, to be sure, many reasons for this. At one level, only Torah study can generate positive performance of mitzvot, talmud mevi lidei ma’aseh. At another level, Chazal teach us that the very act of Torah study is numinous, generating a unique rendezvous with the Divine, “for even if one is sitting and learning, the Shechina dwells with him.”
There is another element which differentiates the study of Torah study from other mitzvot. It is obligatory, not merely at specific times during the year, but rather, at every stage of a person’s life. As Rambam emphatically rules in the first chapter of Hilchot Talmud Torah, one is obligated to actively learn even until the very last day of his life.
Thank God, we are privileged to learn in a community second to none when it comes to Torah education for our children, teens and young adults. We are further blessed to have wonderful shiurim and learning opportunities for our adults in all of the wonderful shuls. And yet, there is only one program which provides an intensive, daily framework for those who built our incredible community to fulfill the mitzvah of ongoing Torah study in a warm, social and fully engaging environment: the Beit Midrash of Teaneck. Without this program, we would not be complete as a Torah community.
We are all aware of the critical role ongoing socialization provides with respect to physical and psychological health at all stages of life. In this way, the Beit Midrash of Teaneck is not only a vehicle for continuing to perform the mitzvah of Talmud Torah at the highest level, but, no less, an opportunity to help secure the health of our most venerated community members.
In addition to its daily Daf Yomi program, offered in conjunction with The Jewish Center of Teaneck, the Beit Midrash of Teaneck offers a robust program from 10 a..m.-1 p.m. on Monday- Wednesday of shiurim in Gemara b’iyun, Halacha, Machshava, parsha, Minchat Chinuch, Jewish history, and Nach with the world-class Tanach scholar Rabbi Hayyim Angel. Beit Midrash of Teaneck shiurim are open to men and women. Please visit us at beitmidrashofteaneck.org to learn more about our program and to help support us.
Our visiting faculty include some of the most distinguished Talmidei chachamim in our community, including Rav Mordechai Willig and Rav Michel Rosensweig, as well as the esteemed rabbonim of the Rabbinical Council of Bergen County. It is not merely that we are offering a framework for the founding generation of our community to learn, but that we are offering a program of unmatched excellence, as we rightly do for all other demographics within our community.
Finally, we are intent on honoring the vision of our esteemed founders, Dr. Carl Feit, Len Grunstein, David Jacobowitz, Simcha Katz and Tim Levart by doing so without charging any tuition or registration fee, to ensure that all of our venerated chaverim are able to participate.
We invite the entire community to join us for our annual dinner celebrating the completion of another year of learning this Tuesday, June 17 at 6:30 p.m.. This dinner is our annual fundraiser with the goal of raising $100,000 to be able to sustain this vital program for our community. Please join us and support our mission to provide this framework for those to whom the entire kehillah is most indebted. For information about registration, please contact Rebbetzin Leah Feldman at admin@bmofteaneck.org.
