Ben Porat Yosef Plans Annual Dinner at The Grove

(Courtesy of BPY) Ben Porat Yosef (BPY) will hold its annual dinner on Monday night, March 16, at 7:30 p.m. at The Grove in Cedar Grove. This year’s annual dinner celebrates BPY’s growth over the last 19 years. BPY is proud to honor three individuals who have served as pillars of the BPY community, positively impacting students and their families every day: Chedva and David Breau, Dr. Talia Hindin and Cori A. Robinson.

Chedva and David Breau are the proud parents of four girls; Miriam, a graduate of Ben Porat Yosef’s Class of 2019 who now attends The Idea School; Ruthie, a fifth grader at BPY; Gabriella, a fifth grader, and Eleor, a fourth grader, who both attend The Shefa School. The Breaus chose BPY because of its focus on Sephardic heritage and Ivrit b’Ivrit, as well as BPY’s philosophy on innovative education. Both David and Chedva have been dedicated partners to BPY where they both engaged in various leadership and committee opportunities. David was an active board member for many years, serving as the Board of Directors secretary, chair of the Committee on Trustees as well as a participant of the Legal Committee. Chedva played an integral role, over the years, in assisting many of the shlichim transition to their new homes by becoming surrogate family to them. Englewood residents for the past 10 years, they are members of Kehilat Kesher Synagogue. Chedva works in various businesses in the nursing home industry in the Midwest. She chaired the Youth Committee at Kesher Synagogue and is an active board member of the One Family Fund. Chedva was born in Israel and is a graduate of Touro College where she received her Bachelor of Arts in psychology. David is currently employed as chief strategy officer and general counsel for the fintech startup MayStreet Inc. Prior to this, David was general counsel of Straight Path Communications, as well as a litigator at Sullivan & Cromwell LLP and Sidley Austin LLP. David earned his law degree from Duke University where he graduated cum laude, and also earned a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from Johns Hopkins University where he graduated with high honors. David also served as a corporal in an infantry division of the IDF.

Dr. Talia Hindin serves as the school psychologist of BPY where she is known as Dr. Talia. When reflecting on her years at BPY, Talia is most appreciative and feels incredibly fortunate to have forged such special relationships with colleagues, parents and most importantly, the students of BPY. Her days are enhanced by the time she spends working with the students in all capacities and settings. In her role as school psychologist, Talia is passionate about the social-emotional well-being of the students and aims to help the students learn the skills, gain the insight and develop a desire to be their best selves. Through class wide activities, individual or group sessions and collaboration with teachers and parents, Talia thoroughly enjoys the daily challenge of guiding the students to reach their fullest potential. Talia earned her doctorate in school-clinical psychology from Yeshiva University’s Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology. There she received the Becker Family Scholarship, a scholarship conferred upon students serving the Jewish community. After receiving her doctorate, Talia worked in a variety of both clinical and school settings, including the Center for Applied Psychology and the Rye Public School system. Outside of school, Talia is the program coordinator for Yesh Tikva’s Fertility Friends program which provides emotional support for couples facing infertility. Talia combines her clinical skills with her devotion to Jewish living through teaching kallah classes to kallot from a range of backgrounds. Finally, in her spare time, she has a small private practice. Talia is a proud parent of five children, four of whom, Leba (3), Eliana (3), Gavriel (1), and Merav (pre-k) are BPY students. Orly, the youngest, can’t wait to join her siblings!

Cori A. Robinson has been a parent at Ben Porat Yosef since her daughter, Keshet (third grade) was in nursery. Cori’s family chose BPY because of the school’s palpable warmth, its appreciation for both Sephardic and Ashkenazic traditions, its insistence on excellence in both Limudei Kodesh and General Studies, its emphasis on ahavat Hashem and yirat Hashem and of course the school’s unparalleled curriculum in teaching the Hebrew language. Cori and her husband, Rabbi Gavriel Z. Bellino, and their children, Keshet and Choni (ninth grade) split their time between Teaneck and the East Village where Gavriel is the rabbi of the Sixth Street Community Synagogue. Their special community’s emphasis on uniqueness, devotion and observance is echoed at BPY, a true partner in spreading love for Am Yisrael. Cori first became a school volunteer through the walkathon committee and the auction committee, having chaired the latter for the past four years. She has also served on the Board of Trustees for the past four years. She is a member of the finance and executive committees and is chairperson of the legal committee. She has served as vice president of the Board of Trustees for the past two years. Cori, a native of Staten Island, graduated with a Bachelor’s of Arts in theatre arts from Brandeis University. She received a master’s from the City University of New York in theatre history, theatre and criticism, and a law degree from Yeshiva University’s Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. An attorney in New York and New Jersey, Cori has practiced law for more than 12 years. In 2017, she established her own law firm, Cori A. Robinson PLLC which focuses on trusts and estates and elder law, specifically estate planning, estate litigation, Medicaid planning and guardianship. Cori writes a weekly column for the online legal news outlet, AboveTheLaw.com on her experiences as a solo practitioner and issues in the field of trusts, estates and elder law.

The Ben Porat Yosef annual dinner is a critical part of BPY’s yearly fundraising efforts, ensuring that the school is able to deliver excellence in yeshiva education while providing an accessible education, regardless of financial circumstance. BPY strives each day to develop each child’s ahavat Hashem and yirat Hashem; to inspire, challenge and engage each learner; celebrate and transmit our Sephardic and Ashkenazic identity, love of Am Yisrael, Eretz Yisrael and Medinat Yisrael; empower and connect students through Hebrew language fluency; and build a warm, caring and devoted community dedicated to nurturing empathic, happy and self-fulfilled human beings.
