It was a smashing spring season for Bergen Broncos 7 Blue as they became champions of the IYB Spring AAU Youth League. Winning seven of eight regular season games, they then beat IYB Dominators Orange team in the semis and the St. Johns Leonia team in the championship game.
Their success was based on ferocious defense and tremendous shooting. In the championship game the team was down by double digits with minutes to play before forcing many steals and hitting clutch shots to pull out a 40-35 victory.
Throughout the season everyone contributed. Jehad Edmonds dominated the boards and scored big points in the paint. Jay Jay Blinken played solid interior defense and allowed the team to successfully play inside-out offense. Jake Fromen was the athletic big man who got big rebounds, but also hit key 3-point shots. Benny Matheson was the team swing-man slashing to the hoop for a big basket at critical times. Yechiel Keiser was an offensive sparkplug who routinely hit tear-droppers and the big lefty shots. Eitan Pfeiffer led the team in three pointers and aggressively defended the dribble. Judah Oppenheimer displayed impeccable ball control and put away the opposition in the finals with some smooth long range shots. Eitan Warburg created and then superbly led the fast break while astounding the fans with his remarkably high assist-to-turnover ratio. Jack Reinhart played pesky defense, penetrated the lane with his quick dribble and distributed the ball with alacrity. Ariel Solomon came back from an injury and Israel bar mitzvah celebration to play key effective games down the stretch of the regular season. It was a complete all-around fun team effort with many close intense games. They also participated in two tournaments, winning one of them.
The coach was Raymond Wright. The Broncos teams are organized and supervised by Dovey Forman.
