Bergen County Hadassah Chapters to Host Author

The Bergen County Hadassah chapters will be welcoming guest speaker Baila Round Shargel, historian and author of “Lost Love: The Untold Story of Henrietta Szold” on Monday, March 23, at 1 p.m. in the Pulka Room at the Fair Lawn Jewish Center, 10-10 Norma Avenue in Fair Lawn. Henrietta Szold was a brilliant American Jewish scholar who was a pioneering voice for the Zionist movement. She is best known as the founder of Hadassah, the Women’s Zionist Organization of America. Yet in the years immediately prior she had fallen hopelessly in love with her younger colleague, Louis Ginsburg, and her love was not returned. Through the letters they had exchanged and her previously unpublished private journal, expertly edited by Shargel, “Lost Love” reveals fascinating details about the inner life of this woman who was extraordinary for her time.

This event is hosted by the Fair Lawn Chapter of Hadassah and is free of charge and open to the public. Reservations are necessary. For more information and to RSVP, please contact Leslie Felner at 201-873-2476 or [email protected].
