Ukuleles for Peace to Give Special Performance at the Jewish Center of Teaneck
Ukuleles for Peace in Israel, a non-profit musical group comprised of teenage children from Israel, will give a special performance at the Jewish Center of Teaneck on Tuesday, July 28th, at 8 pm. The goal of Ukuleles for Peace is to bring Jewish and Arab teenage children together to play in an orchestra with ukuleles, kazoos and other fun instruments. The founder of Ukuleles for Peace, Paul Moore, works with the students once a week in their own schools, and brings them together for performances. The children sing in Hebrew, Arabic and English. The hope is that playing together will generate further opportunities for communal activities and that parents and members of the communities will get involved in the program. The group has been in the United States for three weeks, having performed in Rhode Island, Maine, New York City, the Kennedy Center in Washington DC and Hawaii. This will be their final performance. A voluntary contribution of $15 is requested to enable more children to participate in the group, and to help fund the purchase of ukuleles for those who cannot afford to buy one. Checks can be made out to the Jewish Center of Teaneck. All contributions will go towards the organization Ukuleles for Peace in Israel.
