Donate Blood at Young Israel of Teaneck
Interested in saving lives? The Young Israel of Teaneck is hosting a blood drive on August 26. Blood is especially needed at this time of year. The summer months drastically decrease in blood donations, because many people are on vacation. Come to Young Israel of Teaneck on August 26th to help fill that gap! Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey Offers Hebrew Class
The Jewish Federation is teaching a Hebrew Ulpan class. Classes will begin on October 19. If you sign up during the summer, there is a special fee of $410. Touro Social Work Dean
to Address Aging and Caregiving at Rinat
Dr. Steven Huberman, founding dean of the Touro College Graduate School of Social Work, will address aging and caregiving at Congregation Rinat Yisrael in Teaneck on August 15th. Dr. Huberman’s presentation, “Growing Old: Taking Care of Yourself and Your Parents – Unique Jewish Perspectives,” will take place at 6:20 pm on Shabbat, Parshat Re’eh.
The presentation, to include a Q&A, will provide the latest findings relating to aging parents.
“How do you take care of parents and yourself? If you are above age 55, how can you plan for a healthy retirement?” said Dr. Huberman. “These are among the most pressing concerns of our community. With careful consideration, the latest information, and advance planning, family members can live healthier and longer, as well as deal sensitively and prepare for the best outcomes for our loved ones,” he added.
In his talk, Dr. Huberman will cover the following timely topics: the need for regular timed interaction with parents, medication compliance, diet and exercise for seniors, long term care options and finances, caregiver fatigue, considering the “big question” and advanced directives.
Dr. Steven Huberman is a national expert on aging who has written over 50 major publications. He recently served as president of the New York State Association of Deans of Social Work Schools.
