Ma’ayanot to Host Annual Yom Iyun
Ma’ayanot Yeshiva High School for Girls, located at 1650 Palisade Avenue in Teaneck, will host its annual Yom Iyun on September 20, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The Yom Iyun will begin with a keynote shiur by Rabbi Jeremy Wieder, Rosh Yeshiva, Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary of Yeshiva University, on the topic Avot Akhlu Boser veShinei Banim Tiq`henah: Vicarious Punishment and Communal Responsibility in Judaism, followed by additional shiurim by members of the Ma’ayanot faculty. Kaplen JCC on the Palisades Launches Art History Series
The Kaplen JCC on the Palisades is launching a three-part journey into the history of great art, presented by Michael Norris, Ph.D., educator and lecturer from the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The series will run on three consecutive Mondays, November 2, 9, 16, from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Cost is $40 members/$55 non-members or $15/$18 per session. The three classes featured will include: Vincent Van Gogh—Brilliant and Beleaguered, Impressionist Painters—Rebels with a Cause, and Roman Art and Artifacts—Meet the Romans. Newly retired after 21 years of working for the Education Department of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Dr. Norris still teaches in the galleries for the museum as well as presents lectures to libraries, schools and organizations. He has an M.A. in the Classics, and a Ph.D. in Medieval Art History, both from the University of California.
Baking Class to Benefit Nechamacomfort
A cupcake decorating class to benefit Nechamacomfort will be held at the Sklar home (95 Norfolk St. Bergenfield) on Tuesday, September 1, at 8 p.m. The class will be led by Amy Wasserman, baking expert, and refreshments will be served. The cost is $36 per person and all proceeds will benefit Nechamacomfort, an organization that helps families with infant and pregnancy loss. RSVP to [email protected].
Soda Scan’s Back-to-School Charity BBQ to be Held at Phelps Park
On Sunday, September 6, from noon to 4 p.m. at Phelps Park in Teaneck, there will be a back-to-school BBQ to support the communal tuition fund. Many of the local shuls and schools are working together to bring their members and families to have some fun, enjoy a great BBQ and support an important cause.
Lamdeinu to Hold High Holiday Classes
Lamdeinu will host High Holiday classes on Wednesday, September 9, in Teaneck.
The variety of classes will include “From High Holidays to Every Day: Aleinu as a Lens into Our Prayers” with Rachel Friedman, “Teshuva for the Sins We Don’t Commit” with Dr. Julie Goldstein and “The Difficulty of Asking for Forgiveness” with R.
