At Tuesday night’s Bergenfield Town Council Meeting, phase two of the Highgate Terrace resurfacing plan was approved, with the project awarded to the construction company Gotthold Paving, LLC.
Mayor Norman Schmelz told the Jewish Link that he spoke to Borough Administrator Corey Gallo Wednesday morning and confirmed he was scheduling a pre-construction meeting in the next several days to book the work. That meeting will include the administrator, the borough engineer and the construction company.
“Our goal is to get sewer pipes, storm drain, sewers and a base coat of asphalt in place before the winter. That is our goal, but we have to talk to the engineer and construction company to make that happen,” said Schmelz. Curb work and sidewalks may not be completed until spring. “Cement work is a challenge because it takes 90 days to cure cement, and putting salt down on those streets will ruin it,” Gallo told the Jewish Link.
“Pouring cement and final coat [of asphalt] would best be served in spring. There will be a better idea of all timelines after the meeting,” said Schmelz.
Schmelz also shared his reply to an email sent by a group of concerned Highgate Terrace residents, saying that he is available for their questions at any time. “There is no chance that this project will not be complete by the spring,” he told them.
