One Jewish sports enthusiast in New Jersey is changing children’s lives by putting big smiles on the faces of children going through rough times.
Mike Dube, from Sharing Seats, is always on the lookout for a child who needs some cheering up. Mike’s compassion drives his desire to make these children feel special. Sharing Seats allows children who are battling illness or struggling with a family member’s illness to have a “time out” at a sports event, concert, Broadway show or other fun night out. It is an opportunity to step away from the struggles of their daily lives and just be a typical kid for a short while.
Batya Paul from Bergenfield, New Jersey, writes about how with the help of Mike Dube, she has taught her kids a great life lesson. “Keeping my children grounded while growing up privileged is a very fine line to teeter….With the help of my incredible friend, hero and role model, Mike Dube…we were able to have a true teaching moment.” Batya said.
In lieu of a birthday party this year, Paul’s children Jonathan and Sophia were joined by a few friends in a basketball tournament with Mike Dube. “The money we would have spent on a birthday party, will allow a young lady battling Lupus, to have her wish granted and meet Selena Gomez when she arrives here this week,” said Paul. “We asked for no gifts and asked people to consider a donation to sharingseats.org”
The children learned with Dube about strength, perseverance and building themselves from the inside out while having fun. He commended them for playing for children less fortunate than themselves. Dube explained that the Sharing Seats children just want to be like them, to wake up and have their bodies work normally, to live and breathe the way we all do.
Batya suggested that parents consider the path she took the next time they want to make a party. Mike would be more than happy to connect you to Sharing Seats.
