This Shabbat, May 4, Rabbi Netanel Elyashiv will be the scholar-in-residence. After the Kiddush that follows the main minyan, his topic will be “I Have a Dream! The Zionism of Montefiore and the Vilna Gaon’s Students.” At 6:30 p.m., he will discuss “To Eulogize or Not to Eulogize? Rav Kook and Hertzl” and, between Mincha and Maariv, he will give a shiur, “So Where Is Statehood Mentioned in the Torah?”
In addition, this Sunday morning, May 5, at 10:00 a.m., there will be a screening of the film “With All Your Soul,” produced in memory of Major Roi Klein, who sacrificed his life in the second Lebanon War to save his troops, while saying “Shema Yisrael.” Following the movie, Rav Elyashiv will speak about his close friend Roi, as well as about his student, Lieutenant Hadar Goldin, who was killed in battle in the Gaza Strip during Operation Protective Edge. Rav Elyashiv will have his books on sale, including the English “With All Your Heart—In Memory of Roi Klein.”
Born in Binghamton, New York, Rav Elyashiv grew up in Ra’anana, Israel. He studied at Yeshivot Merkaz HaRav and Har HaMor in Jerusalem and served as a sergeant in an IDF paratrooper unit. Currently, he serves as CEO of the Binyan HaTorah publishing house, and his articles have been published in leading Israeli websites and newspapers, such as Yediot Achronot. A senior teacher at the Bnei David pre-army yeshiva, his books include “Spiritual Advice for Combat Soldiers.”
