Bi-Cultural Hebrew Academy Athletics Are Robust

What an incredible season it has been for sports this fall at Bi-Cultural Hebrew Academy. The girls volleyball teams at BCHA, in particular, have had a wonderful season. All of the teams—fifth through eighth and upper school—have been playing with heart and focus, and in every game, demonstrate how hard the Bobcats work to show up for their school.

Games continued during the holiday season and confident wins showed the best qualities of the players. The middle school, in particular, rebounding from a tough 7/8 loss in the last week of October, ending their undefeated season. Nonetheless, the team is demonstrating great resilience and team spirit.

Karen Cella, BCHA’s new director of Athletics, expressed her enthusiasm and admiration for her players and their coach in a recent interview. “While Coach Tessiny has been a great motivator and inspiration to our players, especially being a competitive player herself, our successes on the court are reflective of the standards of excellence that our girls bring to all aspects of their school life. They truly value the opportunities to demonstrate their leadership skills, support one another both academically and athletically, and create a tightly bonded team which inspires them to play at their competitive best.”

The BCHA upper school team has two games to go in the regular season, and is still undefeated in spite of a tough scrimmage on October 29. With the end of the season rapidly approaching, the team is rallying, working hard to hold on to their championship season, and gaining respect on and off the court. Winning is truly a team effort and the girls are always inspiring younger teams,  leading by example and representing BCHA Bobcat values of team building, support for fellow athletes, and improving skills and confidence through hard work.

As BCHA athletes look forward to winter sports, many students are gearing up for the start of basketball season, by far the most popular sport on campus for both boys and girls. Additionally, Coach Cella hopes to begin planting the seeds for new sports team opportunities, such as wrestling, track and field, and tennis this spring.
