This September, coinciding with its inaugural season of professional theater in the new and constantly evolving Black Box Performing Arts Center (BBPAC) in the heart of vibrant Teaneck, NJ, Black Box Studios will offer an array of performing arts classes for students of all ages. Instruction in drama, musical theater and improvisation is available for varying levels of experience.
Upcoming classes open for registration include:
Drama for Teens (Grades 8-12), which starts on September 13 and will meet on Tuesdays from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. as well as select Sunday afternoons.
Students can advance their acting, dramatic interpretation and improv techniques as they rehearse for and take part in a production of a Broadway or Off Broadway drama, thriller or comedy.
This class is by audition only and auditions will be scheduled by appointment on weekdays between 5 and 7 p.m. Students will be contacted to reserve a slot with registration/payment. (While most students are offered a principal or ensemble/swing role, on occasion a student is asked to join another workshop.)
Teen Musical Theater Workshop starts September 12 and meets on Mondays and Wednesdays for Grades 8-12 from 7 to 9:30 p.m.
Students can advance their vocal and musical, dance and movement, acting and dramatic interpretation, and improv techniques as they rehearse for and take part in a production of a Broadway or Off Broadway musical.

The first trimester show for the Teen Musical Theater Workshop will be Green Day’s “American Idiot the Musical.”
Musical Theater Workshop for Kids starts September 12 on Mondays and Wednesdays for Grades 4-7 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
Younger students can advance their vocal and musical, dance and movement, acting and dramatic interpretation, and improv techniques as they rehearse for and take part in a specially constructed condensed Broadway-style musical!
Intro to the Stage starts September 18, meets on Sundays and runs for 10 sessions.
The class is for K-third grade kids and meets from 10 to 11 a.m.
Our youngest students are introduced to the basics of performing in this class: acting, theater games, improvisation, collaboration and getting along with others—skills they will use as they rehearse scenes or short plays with other classmates. This is perfect for children with little or no experience in theater who have the desire or curiosity to perform in a safe and pressure-free environment.
Adult Acting Workshop starts September 11 and meets on Sundays and Wednesdays from 7 to 9 p.m. It is for ages 19 and older.
More experienced students can advance their acting, dramatic interpretation and improv techniques as they rehearse for and take part in a production of a Broadway or Off Broadway play. Admission is by permission of the artistic director.
Teen Improv Beginners starts on Sunday, September 25, and meets Sundays from noon to 1:30 p.m. It is for ages 14-18.
This class introduces the fundamentals of improvisation using short and long form improv techniques. The class is ideal for those who have never tried improv, are looking to break out of their shell or are looking for something new and fun to do. Students ultimately have the opportunity to perform improv for an audience.
Adult Improv Beginners starts on Sunday, September 25, and meets Sundays from 2 to 3:30 p.m. It is for ages 19 and older.

Students ultimately have the opportunity to perform improv for an audience.

This class goes deeper into long form improv techniques and vastly expands the repertoire of short and long form exercises. The class is geared toward those who have successfully completed the teen beginner class or have demonstrated a heightened level of improv experience to the instructor. Students will have regular opportunities to perform improv for an audience.
Adult Improv Intermediate starts on Sunday, September 25, and meets Sundays from 6 to 7:30 p.m. It is for ages 19 and older.
