Black Box Studios Presents Pulitzer Prize Winner ‘Disgraced’

The Black Box Performing Arts Center (BBPAC) continues to emerge as the tri-state area’s premiere destination for both cutting-edge professional theater and collaborative performing arts education as it proudly presents a new production of Ayad Akhtar’s “Disgraced” in the heart of Teaneck—just a quick ride over the George Washington Bridge.

This new production of the 2013 Pulitzer Prize winner is directed by BBPAC Artistic Director Matt Okin, produced by Huey Esquire and Black Box Studios and features a stellar cast that includes Misty Easler, Katie Housley, Alex Hughes, Hemang Sharma, and Laurence Wallace. The stage manager is Mckenna Pope, and production design is by Jason Felix.

“Disgraced” will play 15 performances over three weekends, from Thursday, July 6, through Sunday, July 23, at Black Box Studios’ new home, Teaneck’s Black Box Performing Arts Center (200 Walraven Drive. [just off Palisade Ave., GPS: 290 Walraven Drive], Teaneck, NJ 07666).

In “Disgraced,” Amir Kapoor is a successful Pakistani-American lawyer who is rapidly moving up the corporate ladder while distancing himself from his cultural roots. Emily, his wife, is white; she’s an artist, and her work is influenced by Islamic imagery. When the couple hosts a dinner party, what starts out as a friendly conversation escalates into something far more damaging…
