Hamas murders six hostages in cold blood, and the world, including many Israelis and Jews, blame Netanyahu. That is insanity
Hamas has been terrorizing and killing Israelis for almost 20 years, and the world, including many Israelis and Jews, blame Netanyahu for not agreeing to a cease-fire that would let Hamas remain as a viable military force to kill more Israelis. That is insanity.
History has shown that since Hamas took power in Gaza there has been almost continuous fighting and killings. Israel relinquished control of the Gaza Strip in 2005 and Hamas terrorists rapidly became the ruling force. Israel had to go back in 2008 in a brief but full-scale war with Hamas to quell Hamas’ terrorist activities. In 2014 Israel had to again invade Gaza to destroy Hamas strongholds and put down terrorist activity, which cost more Israeli lives.
October 7, 2023 was the next chapter in this now familiar ongoing saga. This time 1,200 innocent Israeli civilians were brutally massacred and 250 hostages were taken by Hamas. In addition, between the actual wars and incursions, Hamas has engaged in an unrelenting campaign of deadly terrorist activities including intifadas, rocket and missile attacks, firebombing and killings.
Israel is now in the midst of a long and costly war, but finally seems to have Hamas cornered. This has cost the lives of over 700 IDF martyrs already, and the fighting is still not over. However, instead of directing their anger at the Hamas barbarians who started it all, the world’s (and many Israelis’ and Jews’ anger) is being directed against Netanyahu for not agreeing to a dubious cease-fire that may bring the remaining hostages home, while leaving Hamas in power. If such a cease-fire is put in place now, it is quite predictable that further carnage will again happen in the future. That is insanity.
In the famous saying attributed to Albert Einstein, “Insanity is doing the same thing over again and expecting different results.”
The humanitarian quandary that Netanyahu faces is whether to lose some people now or lose more people later. It is a painful reality to accept the fact that there seems to be no other choice. If Hamas is left in place, more Israelis will be victims of their fiendish actions. Yet that is exactly what his critics are demanding. This is a classical case of blaming the victim for the crime. By echoing the popular, but flawed slogan, “Bring Them Home,” these critics are putting the blame and onus on Netanyahu to bring the hostages home, instead of on the Hamas savages to free the hostages and let them go home. That is insanity
The question is whether criticism of Netanyahu is driven by humanitarian concerns, or by a political agenda overriding sanity.
