BMS—Brighten My Summer

What do STEM, Pirkei Avot, show-and-tell and the game ‘Malarky’ all have in common? If you ask the girls at Bruriah Middle School (BMS), you’ll hear about their “BMS: Brighten My Summer” program. The summer calendar of Zoom activities began when Mrs. Zehava Greenwald and Mrs. Leiter began talking to their students about their summer plans as they came to pick up their items and return books at the end of the school year. They noticed that many girls had no summer plans, and collaborated with teachers to plan activities throughout the summer. As Mrs. Greenwald, the school’s assistant principal, said, “Though I was not surprised, I was impressed that teachers were so eager to volunteer. Filling up a calendar of activities was very easy.” The goals of this initiative are to provide structure for the students and stay connected with them during the summer. Upcoming programs include a cooking class, Zumba, home forensics, Canva cards and Torah classes. Even throughout the summer, Bruriah Middle School is glowing with goodness.
