Ben Porat Yosef first grade students marked an important milestone on Sunday, February 25, with a mesibat siddur enjoyed with parents and special guests. Building up to the day, each student wrote a poem about tefillah in English and then wrote an essay in Hebrew about the things for which he/she prays on a daily basis. As part of the celebration, the students presented two Hebrew videos in which they had re-enacted important “tefillah moments.” One video depicted the story of Choni Hama’agel and the second depicted Geveret Ben Dosa’s practice of tefillah. The students had also pre-recorded themselves singing a song; while this song was played for the audience, they presented a dramatic rebuilding of the beit hamikdash. Another highlight of the event occurred when the students used sign-language to sign a song. The program included singing and dancing, and culminated with students excitedly receiving their siddurim.
