BPY First Graders Enjoy One-Room Schoolhouse Day

BPY’s one room schoolhouse day was fantastic! The students began the day by lining up outside the classroom (a.k.a. schoolhouse) and entered to find the desks arranged in rows. They found their seats, girls on one side and boys on the other, and were introduced to the rules of the schoolhouse. The students enjoyed lessons in reading (with passages from the McGuffy’s reader), writing (on slates and in script!) and arithmetic (Farmer McCormick made corn meal with 20 corns. He had 15 left over. How many did he have at first?). The class enjoyed one-room schoolhouse-style recess games. The special day was an experiential lesson in history.
