BPY Fourth Grade ‘Links Up’ at Carnegie Hall

Ben Porat Yosef fourth grade students participated in the “Link Up” program at Carnegie Hall, entitled “The Orchestra Sings,” on Thursday, May 24. Along with 2500 children from area schools, the Orchestra of St. Lukes and top singers, instrumentalists and dancers, the students played the recorder and sang a repertoire of songs that they learned during the year, including “Come to Play,” written by concert host and Julliard Professor Thomas Cabaniss, “Beethoven’s Ode to Joy,” “To Make Words Sing” (Cabaniss), based on the poem by Langston Hughes, “Simple Gifts” and the grand finale, “Oye” (Are You Listening?). The students worked throughout the year to prepare for this culminating concert and gave it their all in an experiential and exciting finish to their academic music program this year.
