BPY Fourth Graders Learn About People With Disabilities

Fourth graders at BPY just completed the study of a very important topic: People with disabilities. Through different activities, BPY launched this study by experiencing what it might be like to have difficulty talking, seeing or using their arms. Through research and videos, the children discovered that an individual’s disability can play a major role in his/her life: whether it’s positive or negative. Overcoming their challenges and developing confidence are vital. The children learned about the importance of disability awareness and how it makes it easier for people with disabilities and our society to develop sympathy and empathy for one another.

The children have realized that, as a society, it is our utmost duty to allow people with disabilities to experience a life they deserve. We are all different but very much alike at the same time. Disability awareness helps in subsiding the stereotypical mindset of society, providing vast opportunities for everyone to get involved in creating a positive, inclusive society for all.

The students were asked to choose a disability to explore. They learned how to research, take notes and transfer these notes into organized thoughts.
