This past Friday, Ben Porat Yosef’s first through eighth grade students welcomed their grandparents and other special visitors to school for a special program of tefillah, arts and crafts, challah baking and Kabbalat Shabbat! The morning began with the students and visitors filling the school building with beautiful tefillot in both Ashkenaz and Sephardic nosachs, as is the norm at BPY. After tefillah, everyone created colorful and vibrant challah platters and salt shakers for their Shabbat tables. Families then performed the weekly mitzvah of making and braiding the challah dough and brought it home to bake for a special Shabbat treat (some even had chocolate chips)! The program concluded with a spectacular Kabbalat Shabbat with the families singing and dancing as one. During the program, students took their visitors on a tour of their classrooms and proudly showed them their amazing work and the midot they learn at BPY. The energy at the school was incredible and everyone felt so lucky to have made these memories with the BPY family.
